Most believe that they are able to survive a crisis. But the record shows that only 12.1% of Fortune 500 companies have prepared themselves to be ready to deal with crises. The USA was incapable to manage even an approaching crisis in Aug 2005. A beguiled President George Bush admitted publicly that America had failed miserably to manage Hurricane Katrina. Very few organizations can actually survive major crises.

The costs of a disaster can be incalculable in terms of lives, money and opportunities. But it can be avoided.
