JaBA Crisis Management System - 4A

"A leader or a man of action in a crisis almost always acts subconsciously and then thinks of the reasons for his action." - Jawaharlal Nehru

We all face with crisis situations. Probably the greatest crises we face are entering and leaving this world, both of which are beyond our earthly recollection. Through our corporate life, many of us face near-crisis like situations almost on a daily basis.

There are occasions when the person (or team) dealing with a crisis becomes the crisis, over-shadowing the original crisis. Nehru is absolutely right. One’s ability to manage a crisis comes from a quality from within. This calls for tenacity of character, knowledge, discernment and savvy in taking counter actions.

Few are born with crisis-leadership. The foremost decision to take in crisis handling is to ask whether the person in charge has the quality to take charge, as otherwise the alternative is a total anarchy leading to more precipitous situations and disaster.

But not being a crisis Rambo is nothing to be embarrassed about. Perhaps, what is a more disconcerting problem is being caught unprepared in a jeopardous situation!

To prepare meeting with crisis situations is incumbent on Management. The work to lay the foundation and skills to deal with emergencies and disasters can be built and be firmly embedded, ready for the moment to put them into use. It is no different from building an army to ensure the nation’s safety.
